The Dolomites
The large Dolomiti Loop
The starting point is Bolzano, by driving through Val d’Ega, you will soon come to the first stop of the trip, the lake of Carezza. The panorama of the Latemar mountain reflecting itself in the crystal clear, icy waters of the lake is a must have icon for every photographer.
A few hundert meters before the top of the pass you find the junction to Val di Tires, which is a way to turn back to Bolzano with a detour, for those who want to do only the short loop. The Val Tires conserves it’s autentic tyrolian style and the view on the Catenaccio Mountain is breathtaking.
Those on the day trip descend down to Canazei and then Passo Pordoi. On the top of the pass (2239 m) there is cable car which brings you up to 2900 m in a few minutes. Do not miss the occassion the get a high altitude 360° Panorama sight over the Dolomites.
Then head towards Passo di Falzarego (2105 m) and Cortina d’Ampezzo. You can spend your time making a stroll through the legendary italian skiing resort, however we hint to go to Lake Misurina to take another must have picture of the 3 Cime di Lavaredo Mountain.
It is now time to take the way back. The fastest way to do so, which involves no mountain passes, is driving towards Val di Landro and Carbonin, passing Dobbiaco, and then Bruncio.
If there is still a little time left, you can visit the medieval town and have some afternoon tea.
From Brunico you should make it easily on the county roads and then the highway to the starting point Bolzano.
